Books Help Kids Lose Weight

A new study has shown that reading a book can help you lose weight. Obese experts at Duke University conducted a study on thirty one girls ages 9 to 13 who were all severely obese. All of the girls were in a weight management program at Duke Children’s University.

During the study some of the girls were asked to read the book, Lake Rescue.  In this book the protagonist and main character is an overweight kid with self esteem problems. Another group of girls were asked to read the book, Charlotte in Paris that did not have any overweight links in it. The group of girls left were not asked to read anything.

The group of girls who read Lake Rescue had a decrease in their weight and BMI (.71).  The girls who read Charlotte in Paris (.33) or no books at all had (.05) increases in their BMI.
